WHY HELP?

Updated: Aug 9, 2024

There are an estimated 200 million stray dogs around the world, many of which live on tropical islands. Islands with hotter climates and limited natural food resources for dogs to survive on. This means they rely heavily on humans for their food supply and survival.

Dogs are not native species to these parts of the world yet due to humans negligence, the population of malnourished dogs suffering daily with no support remains high.

Dogs reproduce quickly and because of this, the stray dog population has unfortunately grown in particular areas which without food and parasite treatment, leaves many dogs just about managing to survive.

Why don't more people care?

It's not un noticed that there are stray dogs around the world which are living happy lives, free to roam and explore while being cared for and supported by the local community's. I have witnessed this and it's wonderful to see! However, there is unfortunately still far too many dogs which are not cared for by their local community, often ignored, neglected and seen as pests. In worst cases, horrifically abused, attacked, poisoned or killed.

The contrast in how dogs are treated and valued differently throughout communities around the world is difficult to understand. In Morocco i witnessed the contrast between two communities which were only seperated by a 2 hour car journey. One town was clearly very accepting of the stray dogs, often seen sleeping in the shade under the cafe tables, 99% of them looked well fed. The second community which was a much smaller village, (with most likely less resources) 5 out of 10 dogs here were extremely malnourished and one in particular had clearly been badly attacked or abused.

Can we expect others to change?

It wouldn't be fair to suggest that the treatment of dogs and or other animals is related to cultural differences, in my opinion its down to a mindset and lack of education which can be found in anybody, anywhere in the world. Usually passed down by generations and seen as 'the normal' way to treat animals.

Maybe through awareness, education and others setting a good example, more people will see dogs for the loving souls they really are, learn to understand them, appreciate them, and live harmoniously with them.

Dogs have been used worldwide for centuries, working alongside humans to assist with a huge variety of incredible tasks, from herding sheep, to successfully smelling and detecting cancer. Dogs are extremely intelligent and emotional creatures which over the years have been domesticated to thrive alongside humans.

It's important to remember that dogs have the same brain capacity as a small child.

Small children are capable of reading, writing, expressing emotions, building friendships, learning the english language and remembering how to do many, many tasks..

just think about that for a second..

Don't underestimate your dog's ability to learn anything!

What we can do..

My aim is to make people from across the globe aware of the brutal reality dogs face every day and inspire them to think differently. Because it really is as simple as saving your leftovers and giving it to the malnourished dog across the street, who's in desperate need of a meal and moment of compassion.

Kindness costs nothing and in exchange for your kindness, a dog is willing to offer a lifetime of loyalty! For this reason alone, dogs deserve to be loved, cared for and AT LEAST respected and valued!

Making the world a better place is a lot easier than people think, it all starts with perspective.

Together, we CAN save them all!
